The FIA`s World Council meeting earlier this month approved the formation of a Training Working Group as a significant step towards the creation of worldwide training standards for motorsport officials. The Working Group will be co-ordinated by Allan Dean-Lewis MBE, Head of External Affairs at the MSA - a huge endorsement of the lead taken by the MSA in this area and in particular the role that Dean-Lewis has played in driving through many training and safety initiatives in the UK in the last ten years.

Southern Rover Owners Club, winners of a Highly Commended award in the 2002
Alexander Forbes MSA Club of the Year Competition, ran the very first Junior Trial on Saturday 29th March 2003 near Heathfield in East Sussex.

With eight drivers entered, all between 8-11 years old, Oliver Mizen had travelled up from Wooton under Edge with his Toro based JTV Proto and was favorite. The
local challenge was headed by Jon Aldridge who has done the bulk of the development driving for the MSA JTV Demonstrators and was driving his Laser 110 based JTV "Sparky".

The Motor Sports Association has unveiled a brand new formula to allow children as young as eight years old to enjoy off road motor sport.

The following rule changes have been approved by the Motor Sports Council, but remain subject to final ratification by the Council on 19 September 2002.
All the listed changes are required to enable the introduction of the new Junior Trials Vehicle motor sport discipline; all are intended to apply from 1 January 2003.
References to "Diagram XX" apply to drawings or photographs which are not yet available, but which will appear in the 2003 MSA Competitors` Yearbook.
Any comments should be sent in writing to the appropriate MSA executive as soon as possible.

All three JTVs were taken down to the Association of Rover Clubs National Rally, an event held over three days comprising Road Taxed Vehicle Trials, Cross Country Vehicle Trials, Winch and Team Recovery, Concours and a Competitive Safari.

The event organised by the Cornwall and Devon Land Rover Club was held at Newnham Park near Plymouth and a generous area in the centre of the site was provided for the MSA to demonstrate the JTVs to the public.

In order to encourage existing and experienced marshals to register, a number of dispensations as described below have been agreed as an introductory incentive. These dispensations cease on the first issue of an MSA Rally Marshals Registration Card or on 30 June 2003, whichever is the earlier.

A lot has happened since returning from the launch at the Autosports Show in January. Throughout February, finishing touches were made to JTV-1 � all the little jobs which there wasn`t time for in the rush for the Show. In addition, a Working Group of the Off Road Committee has met and the draft regulations will be presented to the Committee in mid-April.
